It is believed that inattentiveness can be inherited. Other major causes include biological factors such as difficulties in pregnancy, exposure of the fetus to alcohol or tobacco, premature delivery, low weight at birth and postnatal brain injury. The tendency to be absent minded may also be caused or made worse by social factors such as poverty, poor parenting and lack of proper nurturance. Other issues associated with absentmindedness include exhaustion and fatigue, depression, unemployment or underemployment, mental torture, indecisiveness, poor memory, mood swings and substance abuse.
